Mara Doughty Seals

Veterinarian/Owner

Mara joined Hill-Dale in 2004 and promptly fell in love with Baraboo, both the town and the people. She has been an owner since 2006 and became Hill-Dale’s sole owner in 2017. She loves making connections with clients and their pets. She feels a great privilege being trusted with their care. Her interests include dermatology and animal behavior.

Mara was under the assumption she was a big dog person her whole life, but finds herself in love with a small barking Sheltie named Robbie. She enjoys working out, hiking, playing with Robbie, and spending time with her husband Marc.

Mara loves that she gets to work with her rock star staff. They challenge her to be the best doctor, owner, and human being she can be and believes in kindness above all else.

Michael Dobbert

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Michael joined our team in 2016 as an associate veterinarian and has enjoyed practicing in the area since 2013. He has been working with animals for over 20 years at the Milwaukee Zoo, UW research and a Milwaukee AAHA accredited hospital while in high school. Being a husband and a proud father of three also keep him busy outside of Hill-Dale. His family enjoys hiking, camping, nature gardening and trips to the zoo. His fur family consists of a Pug/French Bulldog mix named Ralphie who sounds like a dinosaur during nail trims, Marshy an unusual but friendly FIV positive cat and Rococo a Rottweiler/Shepherd mix who was rescued from a garbage bag in Missouri. They love to wrestle and then snuggle and make-up. Michael’s favorite clients are those he can discuss the current rankings of the Brewers, Bucks, Badgers and Packers.

Michael felt a connection with animals from a very young age and has always had a desire to help both animals and the people who care about them. His favorite part of veterinary medicine is performing dentals, soft tissue surgery and orthopedic procedures. It is fulfilling to hear from clients that he has helped their beloved pet to feel better. The other great part of his career is creating and fostering long term bonds with our clients and their pets. “Practicing high quality medicine, anesthetic procedures and preventative care sets us apart. We are comprised of a team who is highly trained with the most caring individuals the industry has to offer. ”

Macy Leponiemi

Associate Veterinarian

Prior to entering vet school, she completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science at UW-River Falls. She has been enjoying practicing small animal medicine in private practice and shelters in southern Wisconsin and is excited to become established in her hometown of Baraboo.

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Leponiemi enjoys riding her horse, camping, and exploring the outdoors.

Shelby Drogemuller

Associate Veterinarian

Hill-Dale Veterinary Care would like to welcome Dr. Shelby Drogemuller to our practice! Dr. Drogemuller is originally from Northeast Ohio, where growing up, she had many cats and dogs and was involved in 4H. Dr. Drogemuller has enjoyed practicing veterinary medicine for three years in Northeast Ohio, but she and her husband are excited to come back to Wisconsin to start their next adventure. In her free time, Dr. Drogemuller enjoys hiking, fishing, and shed hunting with her husband, Ted. They share their home with two dogs; Ruby, a 6 year old rescue mutt and Woody, a 2 year old Labrador Retriever.

Dr. Drogemuller joins Dr. Mara Doughty Seals, Dr. Michael Dobbert and Dr. Macy Leponiemi at Hill-Dale Veterinary Care, where our mission is excellent service for clients and quality care for patients. Hill-Dale Veterinary Care; Your Pets, Our Life!

Technicians & Assistants

Ashley

Ashley

CVT, Practice Coordinator

Ashley joined our team in 2010 as a Certified Veterinary Technician upon graduating from Madison College. She lives in Baraboo with her daughter Elaina and more kitties than she is willing to admit to. Ashley prefers the company of older kitties with health issues but fell victim to taking home Julius, our previous clinic cat. In her words “He is as boisterous as he is orange.” Ashley enjoys puzzles, drawing, gardening, working out and any activity that involves Elaina.

Ashley knew from a young age she was meant to work with animals and after deciding not to pursue a veterinary degree at UW Madison her family encouraged her to stay in the veterinary field, in a different way than she first envisioned. Interacting with clients and their pet’s and building a strong relationship with them is Ashley’s favorite part of her career. This passion has given Ashley the role of Practice Coordinator. “Caring is what makes our practice so special. We have an amazing team who understands the value of great care and works together to provide that care for our patients, with a smile. I hope every person who comes through our door can feel our dedication to them, their pet, and the profession.”

Cathy

Cathy

CVT And Lead Technician

Cathy joined our team in 2014 as a Certified Veterinary Technician after graduating from Madison College. Cathy’s hard work and dedication to our team earned her the role of Lead Technician. Cathy loves working out, reading, traveling, crafts, and long walks through the country. She lives with her husband and is the happiest dog mom to her three dogs. Lucy, “Lil Lou”, loves to play fetch in the water. Nash, “Nasty Nash”, is not a morning dog and will stay in bed for hours. Sarah, “Senorita Sarah”, excels at keeping the property free of wildlife. Cathy aspired to have the most pets in our practice so she recently acquired two kittens. Guiness, a trouble maker with a zest for life and Jameson, a flirt, watch out he will steal your girl.

Cathy found herself in veterinary medicine after starting nursing classes and finding out she preferred working on pets, not people. There are no two days that are the same in veterinary medicine, and that is what Cathy enjoys most. At the end of the day she feels good about making a difference in animal’s lives. Cathy’s ideal day would be filled with dental procedures and wound treatment. “Our team strives to provide the best medicine for our patients and a lasting bond with our clients”.

Stacie

Stacie

Certified Veterinary Technician

Stacie is the newest member of our team joining us in the spring of 2019 as a Certified Veterinary Technician after graduating from Madison College. When she isn’t working Stacie enjoys helping her family on their farm feeding calves, milking cows and helping in the field. She also enjoys crafting and any activity that can be done outdoors. Stacie has a kitty named Turbo that she found abandoned in a truck on the side of the road at only one week old. She raised her and loves nothing more than spending time snuggling her.

Stacie’s career in veterinary medicine was driven by her passion for helping animals. Being a voice for those who cannot speak and sharing her knowledge with pet owners are the highlights of her day. No two days are the same in veterinary medicine and that is what makes it exciting. “Hill-Dale Veterinary Care has the most welcoming and friendly staff, a positive environment and they add a personal touch to everything they do.”

Melissa

Melissa

Certified Veterinary Technician

Melissa joined our team in 2018 as a Certified Veterinary Technician. She grew up in the Wisconsin Dells area and graduated from Madison College in 2012. Melissa is a cat person who loves to travel and spend time with her friends and family. One of her kitties, Cider, only has half a tail and the other 3 cats love nothing more than to eat, sleep and play with a laser pointer!

Melissa was always drawn to animals growing up, so it’s no surprise that she found her career in veterinary medicine. She takes pride in being the voice for those who don’t have one and an advocate for quality pet care. She enjoys the everyday challenges and rewards that come with working in our industry. “We practice excellent medicine and are held to the highest standard because we are AAHA accredited.”

Denise

Denise

Veterinary Technician

Denise joined our team in 2005 as a Veterinary Technician. She is a proud mother of four children who have blessed her with five grandchildren. Her cat, Larry, has his own Facebook page and a dedicated following of his daily activities. He loves to go for walks around the yard, play fetch, and show guests who enter the house where his food dish is. Her dog, Blue, is the newest addition to her family, loves the grandchildren and also loves to play fetch, even it means all by herself. In her free time Denise enjoys gardening, spending time at the beach, and going for long country drives with her husband of 27 years, Donnie.

Denise’s love of animals and the human animal bond is what drew her to veterinary medicine. She enjoys caring for her patients, educating clients on the best care for their pets, and comforting nervous patients. “We take the time to truly educate our clients, give them options, and help them make an informed decision about their pet’s care. We practice high quality medicine and we take pride in it.”

Ervin

Ervin

Veterinary Assistant

Ervin joined our team in 2012 as a Veterinary Assistant. He grew up in Romania and graduated from veterinary school there. Ervin lives with his wife Cristina and 2 boys, Ervin and Victor. On his day off you can find Ervin listening to music, visiting “man” stores with his boys, building legos with the family, and relaxing at the end of the day by watching his well behaved fish in their tank. His parents have a dog, Roxy, who he helps care for. She is young and rambunctious and likes to sleep in her bed with a piece of clothing that isn’t hers. Ervin’s newest addition is a white and orange kitty named Corina. She enjoys watching the fish, spending time with the family, and after the kids are tucked in bed she builds with their legos all night long.

Ervin became involved in veterinary medicine because he likes to help the helpless and is enthusiastic about fixing things. His favorite part of his career is being involved with surgery and providing preventative care to the pets. Parvo virus is Ervin’s least favorite part. “Our clients like us best because we always try to accommodate their needs, believe in client education above all else and have a friendly and knowledgeable team.”

Starr

Starr

Veterinary Assistant

Starr joined our team in 2021 as a Veterinary Assistant. She was born and raised in the Baraboo area and still lives nearby. In her free time Starr enjoys spending time with friends, attending Brewer’s games, listening to paranormal and true crime podcasts and be sure to check out her fingernails when you see her! While she still has room in her heart and home for a dog she currently has three cats. When Oliver isn’t eating you will find him curled up for a catnap. Scooter is your typical orange cat always keeping his family on their toes. Last but not least Nina is the boss of the household and she runs a tight ship.

A career involving animal care has always been in Starr’s dreams, especially working with orthopedic cases, which is also why she enjoys working part time with Edinger Surgical Options in Madison. Her favorite parts of veterinary medicine are continually learning new information and that every day and each animal is different from the last. You can often find Starr doting over inpatients as her philosophy is “kisses and tail wags make even the worst day better.” “ Whether you’re a client, patient or team member, everyone is treated with compassion and respect. At HDVC we are all family.”

Breanna

Breanna

Certified Veterinary Technician

Breanna joined our team in 2022 as a Certified Veterinary Technician. She graduated from Madison College in 2017 and worked as a CVT in Milwaukee until she chose to relocate to Baraboo where she was raised. In her free time Breanna enjoys watching and participating in karaoke leading with TLC’s “No Scrubs”, watching crime documentaries and the pleasure of spending time with hometown friends and family. While she has no pets of her own just yet she enjoys her fur brothers Twix and Sterling. Twix has a pet giraffe of his own that he takes to bed every night and Sterling has a bad habit of falling asleep on the kitchen counter and is consequently caught red handed.

Bre’s dreams came true when it came to pursuing her career in veterinary medicine. The best part of working with animals is getting to know the pets and their families and watch them grow together. She also takes great pride in caring for and being an advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. “We have a uniquely collaborative team and way of practicing veterinary medicine. Everyone is involved and invested in each patient’s care from the Client Care Specialist, CVT/VA to the Veterinarians.”

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”

Client Care Specialists

Karissa

Karissa

Office Manager

Karissa joined our team in 2012 as a Client Care Specialist. She is a Baraboo native, mother of two wonderful sons, and very proud grandmother. Spending time with her family, reading non-fiction books, and discovering new binge worthy netflix shows are some of her favorite things. Her newest addition to the family is Dirty Harry, an adult cat she adopted from the shelter. She also has a cat, Purrington, who was found in a tree eight years ago by her son Nick. Purrington has never forgotten this and remains fiercely loyal to only him.

Now Karissa fulfills many roles within our team as the Office Manager. Her favorite part of her career is interacting with our clients and getting to know them and their furry families. There isn’t a person that she can’t greet by name and a pet who isn’t thrilled to meet her. “We have the best clientele who care about us just as much as we care about them. I take pride in upholding our AAHA accreditation and the quality medicine that we provide. Our team is what makes all of this possible.”

Amanda

Amanda

Client Care Specialist

Amanda joined our team in 2018 as a Client Care Specialist. She lives in Baraboo with her husband and three children, Jimmy, Stella and Landon. Amanda’s enthusiasm and smile are infectious and she loves to meet new people and pets. Outside of Hill-Dale, she enjoys being outdoors with her family hiking, camping, skiing and exploring both land and water. You can also find her in the kitchen whipping up a tasty dinner or snuggled up on the couch watching a movie. Amanda also has two young and energetic cats, Bart and Oxana. Oxana enjoys stealing Legos off the table and carrying them about while making strange noises, and Bart (and her attitude) also keeps the family on their toes!

Amanda’s favorite part of the job is meeting and assisting our clients with their furry family members. She also takes pride in all of the knowledge she has gained since joining our team. “Being AAHA accredited ensures that we are held to the highest standards and provide the best care to our patients. We all also enjoy the relationship that we cultivate with our clients that comes with years of quality care. I believe we have a great team, who works together, to show every day how much we care about the pets and the people we see here.”

Stephanie

Stephanie

Client Care Specialist

Stephanie joined our team in January 2019 as a Client Care Specialist. In her free time Stephanie enjoys running, hiking, reading and spending time with her daughter and friends. She is the mother of a beautiful daughter, Haley, and four cuddly fur babies, Dot, Shadow, Nelson, and Malibu. Dot, a Labrador mix, loves car rides, bananas, and carrots, not necessarily in that order. Shadow is very partial to Stephanie and was actually found in the Hill-Dale parking lot! Nelson is her sweetest kitty and is known as a bit of a kleptomaniac. The strangest thing he stole was a razor from the shower. If given the chance Malibu will steal food right off your plate.

Stephanie’s favorite part about working at Hill-Dale is being around animals all day and the interactions that she is part of with both the pets and their owners. When asked what sets our practice apart Stephanie answered “I think the fact that we are AAHA accredited says a lot about the medicine we practice. The doctors here want to be able to offer the best to our clients, so they go above and beyond in many ways other practices do not. The team has a positive attitude and that makes it an enjoyable place to be.”

Jen

She enjoys spending time with her husband Ben and daughter Rain, reading, Star Wars, gaming and good coffee. You may also see her around town walking dogs or providing other pet care services to our community. Her home is filled with the love of fur babies. She has one dog named Nala Star who is a Heeler/Pitty mix. Nala gives world class hugs and is a total mama’s girl. Sevro and Kro are the most recent kitty additions. Kro is a snuggler of great proportions and Sevro is adventurous with a strange love for water.

Jen’s favorite part of the job is seeing all the different breeds of pets that walk through the door every day. It brings her joy to see how much our clients care for and love their pets. “Compassion, sincere care and concern given to our clients and their pets is what sets us apart from others in the industry.”

The Pets

Robbie

Robbie

Dr. Seals’s Dog

“Robbie” AKA Robert Burns Seals, selected Mara and Marc as his adopted parents when he booped Marc on the nose at four weeks. He came home at seven weeks, and he has been busy ever since. In addition to his hobbies of being a world champion snuggler and fetcher, he enjoys his career as the Hill-Dale Veterinary Care Goodwill Ambassador. He enjoys working at Hill-Dale because he enjoys being paid in liver treats.

Moose

Moose

Dr. Seals’s Dog

Moose (AKA Lord Moose Malloy Seals) was brought into the Seals household when Mara and Marc decided that they needed a small auxiliary Sheltie to provide Robbie with a brother. Moose is thrilled with this arrangement, though Robbie seems less sure what to think. Moose is well named, as he is a sweet, clumsy oaf– and he’s already larger than Robbie! Moose has not yet learned that he is being groomed to be the Assistant to the Hill-Dale Veterinary Care Goodwill Ambassador.

Seamus O’Davis

Seamus O’Davis

Clinic Cat

Meet Seamus O’Davis! He came to us needing a little TLC after the potato famine left his family penniless. We initially planned to provide him temporary shelter until a client fell head over heels for his boyish charms. It wasn’t long before we realized Seamus had many characteristics like our late Sammy Davis. That is how he earned his name and his permanent place in our clinic.

Seamus fills many roles here at Hill-Dale; puppy socializer, client greeter, left-over treat vacuum, and overseer of his 2 younger ginger brothers. During his remaining awake time he finds pure joy in practicing parkour off the clinic walls and perching awkwardly on Steph’s shoulder when it is most inconvenient.

Aiden O’Kelly

Aiden O’Kelly

Clinic Cat

Introducing. . . Aiden O’Kelly! Our clinic middle kitty was introduced to us through the Alley Cat Alliance Protection Program after sharing his family’s secret recipe for shepherd’s pie. In the beginning he was less than pleased with his relocation, but has learned to enjoy his life of luxury. He is most often observed lovingly squinting at those he appreciates, both human and animal.

Aiden desperately seeks the approval of his older and wiser brother Seamus. When left to his own devices he will ambush his younger brother Sean and wrestle until their fur covers the carpet. Other pastimes include stealing paperclips, watching over his shoulder, and learning more than one way to filet a fish.

Sean O’Connery

Sean O’Connery

Clinic Cat

They say that cats are like potato chips, you can’t have just one! With that said, we would like to introduce the newest member of our feline faction. Sean O’Connery was found by a good samaritan on the side of a deserted country road. His leg was fractured after what we can only assume was a motorcycle race with his fellow Irish gang affiliates gone wrong! With the damage that was sustained, it was necessary to remove the leg, and who better to do that than our very own skilled surgeon Dr. Michael!

After a speedy recovery, Sean has acclimated to a quieter, less dangerous lifestyle within Hill-Dale. Aiden is overjoyed to have a younger brother with a checkered past to get into trouble with, which makes Seamus feel superior. Sean loves nothing more than snuggles, treats, and soaking himself in his own saliva and calling it a “bath”. Our team and clients have thoroughly enjoyed watching Sean blossom over the last few months and can’t wait to see what his future holds.
